New Minco football coach ready to lead the Bulldogs

Brock Wardlaw and his brother, Brady, played against the Minco Bulldogs during their high school days at Okeene, and now the two will lead the Minco football this coming season.

Wardlaw was hired as Minco’s new football head coach after Clint Warren left to be an assistant coach at Tuttle. He joined the Bulldogs’ coaching staff last year as a defensive assistant.

“When the head coaching job became available I thought it was as great opportunity so I threw my name in the hat and didn’t really know what to expect,” Wardlaw said.

Wardlaw was a linebacker in high school at Okeene and graduated there in 2009.

He went on to attend Northwestern in Alva, where he graduated in 2013 and got a job in Kingfisher after that.
His older brother, Brady, played with him at Okeene at the quarterback position.

“The one thing I remember playing against Minco was how tough-minded they were and that is something that drew me here, because the kids are hardworking,” he said.

After Wardlaw was hired for the head coaching job in Minco, he asked his brother to team up with him again as an offensive coach.

“I was able to convince him to come out here and get the job,” he said. “We are very excited about the opportunity.”

The Bulldogs will be loaded with seniors for this season.

“Defensively, I will be counting on Chase Singleton a lot and guys like Tucker Halstead and Dyon Johnson,” he said. “We will also have our quarterback Hunter Jones back, who is a great athlete.”

The Bulldogs began their summer workouts in June and Wardlaw said he is excited to prepare the team for the next season.
