The girls volleyball team won their first two matches but lost the final two to finish third at the Titan Invitational.

The Lady Titans cruised through their first two matches in pool play on Friday. They beat Putnam City West and El Reno, both in three sets. But the momentum fizzled in the final match of the day against Yukon, as they lost, 25-8, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22.

A 2-1 record in pool play was enough to send the Lady Titans to the gold bracket on Saturday. But their day was cut short with a loss to Shawnee. The Suburban Conference rivals took the semifinal match 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-18, 25-17).

“It hurts to lose, but both teams came ready to play,” said coach Toriano Lands. “We have some adjustments we need to make and we’re working on it.”
Renee McBride-Rogers had 12 kills and 12 digs against Shawnee. Emily Norman had 17 digs, Madi Schroeder had 24 assists, Sydney Breckenridge had 9 kills and Cali Walker added 3 blocks in the loss.

Choctaw beat Yukon on the other semifinal match. The Lady Yellowjackets then took the tournament championship with a five-set win over Shawnee in the finals. They finished 4-1 in the tournament, with their only loss coming against Shawnee in pool play.
Schroeder was named to the all-tournament team.

“Madi really moved the ball around well and had some nice shots,” Lands said.

Lands also spoke highly of several players including Amare Weary, Sydney Breckenridge, Walker, and McBride-Rogers.
