Choctaw claims first Academic Bowl Team State Championship
Choctaw stuns 6A competition to claim first state title
Choctaw’s Academic Bowl Team recently overcame top competition on their way to secure an Oklahoma Secondary Activities Association State Championship.

Choctaw’s Academic Bowl Team claims the 2017 Class 6A Academic Bowl State Championship.
The Yellowjackets defeated Norman, then Jenks (twice) and Booker T. Washington (twice) to claim the prestigious title.
Coached by Paula Sendall, the team went undefeated in the Heart of Oklahoma Academic Conference to claim a Tournament Championship and OSSAA 6A Area Championship before heading to state.
After making it to state the last two seasons, claiming fourth and then third, CHS claimed the school’s first ever OSSAA Academic Bowl State Championship Feb. 4 at Redlands Community College in El Reno.
Choctaw’s third straight trip to the big house resulted in fierce competition that resulted in the Jackets rallying back from defeat to leave Tulsa Washington stunned with back-to-back-to-back CHS victories for the title.
“In the state tournament, we defeated Norman and Jenks before being beaten by Booker T to drop down into the losers bracket, where we played Jenks again and won. We then faced Booker T again in the championship game and actually had to beat them twice in a row to become state champions,” said Sendall. “This is the first ever Academic Bowl State Championship for Choctaw High School, so we are very excited.”
The CHS Academic Bowl Team includes senior Will Archer, junior Nathan Bales, senior Joshua Crouch, junior Jordan Ebert, freshman Spencer Farthing, senior Landon Santa-Pinter and senior Blake Vinson.
Sendall is hopeful some of her state champions will finish the year by receiving All-State honors.
The Academic Bowl All-State games will be April 22 at Redlands, and senior participants will be announced in March.
