Starbucks coming to Mustang

It looks like a Starbucks could be on the horizon for Mustang.

The company is looking at the old Los Vaqueros building, located at 132 E. state Highway 152.

“They plan to tear down the old Los Vaqueros building and erect a new structure,” City Manager Tim Rooney said.

The company is in the process of obtaining its building permit for the site; it has submitted early layouts to Mustang Community Development Department, but have not yet finalized those details.

Waylon Longino, who is handling construction for the site, said he was not yet ready to comment on the project, as it is not yet finalized. Starbucks’ corporate communications department echoed that sentiment, saying the company would be ready to make some kind of definitive announcement in the “next couple of weeks.”

Starbucks opened its first location in 1971 in Seattle. Since that time, the company has grown to more than 24,000 stores in 70 countries, officials said. There are about 17 locations in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, including one in Yukon.

This is honestly upsetting to me. Mustang already has a charming local coffee shop and I don’t want to see another small business crushed by a big corporation.

I don’t dislike Starbucks but I I love Wild Hero. I love that there is a local Coffee House in Mustang and I don’t want to see a big cooperation move in and hurt Wild Hero. I would much rather see our local company thrive than another Coffee Chain.

I am a local cupcake decorater at ButterSweet in Yukon/ Edmond and I would hate to see OUR local coffee shop, wild hero go out of business to Starbucks. I LOVE Wild hero. I love that it is local. It’s good for our community.
I will protest startbucks coming to mustang.

While I’m not a big fan of the fancy coffee shops I do think that this would only continue the trend of big corporations killing the local merchants and small business owners/operators that are here in Mustang. My wife and I moved back here many years ago to settle down and start her own business. We need to support the local businesses as best we can and grow from the inside.

Why do we need this over priced inconsiderate company in our town! Also why would you let them in to ruin the coffee shop we already have. I’m not a coffee drinker but Starbucks is ruthless and will cause traffic issues on hwy 152. Not happy

I like wild hero but they don’t have all of the frappes and stuff as Starbucks does and most of the things I like aren’t at wild hero.

I personally love Starbucks and am incredibly excited for this new addition to Mustang. I am all for small business support, but have had many bad experiences with a coffee shop in mustang. Also the service and cofee at Starbucks is better!

Bring on Starbucks!! I own a small business and unfortunately these are the types of things Mustang needs to grow.

Ugh. Can we not? We already have a coffee shop! Let’s go with Chick-fil-a instead????

Free enterprise. You can choose Wild Hero or Starbucks. Most of the time I will get cheap coffee at McDonald’s

I am excited for the new Starbucks. I tried Wild Hero many times. I can’t have regular milk and I know I am not the only person on the planet like this but everytime I asked if they had soy they acted like I had just offended their whole family. So I just drive to Yukon and spend my money at their Starbucks. There will be people who are loyal to Wild Hero and then there will be people like me..who just want a coffee without feeling like they are dying!
