Midwest City Rotary Club awards $10k in scholarships

The Midwest City Rotary Club last week awarded over $10,000 in college scholarships to recent graduates from Carl Albert and Midwest City high schools.

Scholarships were presented during a graduation celebration last Friday night at Crest Baptist Church. The Rotary Club usually presents scholarships during an end of the year awards assembly at the schools.

Ken and Sally Newey, Art Bode, Adam Bush, and Sen. Brenda Stanley presented the scholarships. Stanley was also the guest speaker.

The scholarship program was open to seniors who participated in Student Rotarian program. The scholarship amounts were determined by student participation in activities and volunteer opportunities.

Carl Albert scholarship recipients included: Macy Boren ($1,000), Abigail Boyer ($750), Trever Coyle ($500), Malayna Stober ($500), Abbigail Curling ($250), John Epperly ($250), Olivia Hill ($250), Jessica Kassan ($250), Vaishali Samantaray ($250), Brianna Shaw ($250), Kathryn Souza ($250), Morgan Toney ($250), Josie Wiley ($250).

Midwest City scholarship recipients: Meagan Lancaster ($2,500), River Wilds ($750), Aaleysha Brown-Ward ($250), Nychelle Dawkins ($250), Kaya Harjo ($250), Mariah Hawkins ($250), Angelina Newton ($250).

The Rotary Club also presented $475 scholarships for sophomore students to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program. They included: Delaney Taylor (Carl Albert) and Christie Castellanos (Midwest City).
