A Midwest City police officer was injured in an accident Sunday afternoon near NE 10th St. and Douglas Blvd.

Assistant Chief Sid Porter said about 2:30 p.m., an officer was driving northbound on Douglas Blvd. when she was hit by another driver who failed to stop.

“The subject ran through the stop sign at about regular speed and struck the officer’s vehicle in the front,” Porter said. “We’re not sure why he ran through the stop sign.”
The officer was taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries including broken bones, Porter said.

The traffic lights were out at the time of the accident, and the intersection was being controlled by a four-way stop sign. Witnesses said they saw the police officer stop at the intersection, but the other drive did not slow down or stop.

The other driver was treated for a laceration and released.

Porter said they are still investigating the accident and expect to cite the driver.

Police have not released the name of the officer or the driver.
