Ward 2, 4, 6 up for election in 2021
The City of Choctaw has called for the filing for candidacy as three of seven of the city leadership seats are up for election.
City Council Ward 2, 4 and 6 seats are up for election.
The City of Choctaw candidate filing period will be Feb. 1-3 with the Secretary of the Oklahoma County Election Board.
A general election, if needed, shall be Tuesday April 6, 2021.
New terms will begin for these three even numbered seats April 19, and those terms will expire in April of 2024.
Candidates must be 25 years of age and a registered voter. In addition, City Council candidates must have lived in their ward for six months. Council members are elected by registered voters in their respective wards.
Following the April election, all of Choctaw’s City Council members will earn $115 per month, while the mayor, elected at large across all wards, earns $165 a month.
The Ward 2 seat is currently filled by Mike Birdsong, vice mayor Roger Malone represents Ward 4 and Dale Gill serves as Ward 6 councilman.
The Council meets publicly on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.
The City Council chambers are located at Choctaw City Hall, 2500 North Choctaw Road.
