Like many high school wrestling teams across the country, Midwest City and Del City have struggled to fill out their lineup this season.
The Bombers had just enough to trip up the Eagles in a senior night dual Feb. 2 at John Smith Fieldhouse. Kaleb Kerr, Carter Henry, Jamie Watts and Trevor Hand each logged a fall as the Bombers won 46-36.
“We had some problems with our lineup and had to move some people around,” said coach Shane Kerr. “Our guys stepped up and wrestled well.”

Following a pair of forfeits, Kaleb Kerr put the Bombers on the board with a fall at 120. He took Jevon Cooper to the mat and pinned him at 1:41.
Henry followed with a fall in the second period, tying the match score at 12 all. He took a 4-2 lead in the first period with a reversal and nearfall. Henry put Syrus Williamson on his back late in the second period for a fall with 34 seconds left.
Colby Clanton gave the Eagles their first victory of the night with a quick fall at 138 pounds. Clanton got LaSierra Lavislette on his back late in the first period and held on for the fall, tying the score 18-18.
Jazen Brown helped tip the match in the Bombers’ favor with a major decision at 145 pounds against Jo’Quan Howard. After a quiet first period, Brown scored a nearfall late in the second and a couple of takedowns in the third for the 12-2 major decision.
Watts and Hand added to the lead with a second-period fall at 170 and 220 pounds.
“Jamie Watts had a commanding fall and he’s been looking really good,” coach Shane Kerr said. “He’s started to look like a senior that can make some noise next week at regionals. And Trevor Hand looked really good. He’s just a freshman but he’s realizing he’s a high school wrestler and went out and got bonus points.”
Del City snapped the Bombers run with a fall at heavyweight. Kyron Lindsey pinned Isaac Pugh at 1:27 in the second to make it a 46-36 final.
Before the dual, Del City recognized its lone senior Riddick Nash as well as senior matmaid Emily Grimm.
The Bombers wrapped up their dual season on Thursday with a 48-21 loss to Norman.
Midwest City will compete at the Class 6A West regional meet Feb. 12-13 at Mustang High School. Del City will head to Broken Arrow for the 6A East regional.
