A teen was arrested this morning after officials say he brought a loaded gun to Del City High School.

About 7:40 a.m., school administrators stopped the 15-year-old student for having a vape pen on campus. They later searched his backpack and found a gun, according to Del City police.

A school resource officer immediately took the student into custody.

“The gun was found inside the bag and the student did not threaten anyone at school,” said Maj. Brad Rule. “The SRO was on scene and took him into custody.”

Mid-Del School officials confirmed the incident and thanked police for their quick action.

“This morning, a Del City High School student was arrested for possession of a loaded gun on campus. Del City Police were notified immediately and the student was taken into police custody. We commend the swift actions taken by staff members to keep our students safe,” said Stacey Boyer, director of community relations.
