Carl Albert swimmers compete at Edmond Invitational

EDMOND – The Carl Albert swim teams had tough competition last Saturday in the Edmond Public Schools Invitational.

The Titans managed several top 10 finishes and personal records against a slate of larger schools. The meet included Bentonville West (Arkansas), Owasso, Norman North, Norman, Shawnee, Altus, Fort Gibson, Heritage Hall and the Edmond schools.

Brian Lam led the team with a fourth-place finish in the boys 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:05.84.

Vance Comfort cracked the top 10 every time he jumped in the pool. His best individual showing was the 100 breaststroke where he finished ninth in 1:10.36. Comfort was 10th in the 200 individual medley (2:17.07).

He also swam on 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays, which finished sixth and 10th respectively.

Dylan Garcia, Brian Lam, Comfort and Jackson Bales took sixth in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:49.78. Comfort, Michael Gilliam, Garcia and Lam round the top 10 in the 400-freestyle relay in 3:47.27.

The Carl Albert boys also got top 10 finishes from Gilliam (100 freestyle) and Garcia (100 backstroke).

Girls

Abbey Snook was the top performer for the Carl Albert girls with four top-10 places. She took fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:07.15) and was eighth in the 100 freestyle (1:01.32).

Snook swam leadoff on the 200 medley relay that finished eighth. She was joined by Rhiannon Lenz, Ashli Stiers and Helen Hammond in the opening relay.

Snooks, Brooklyn Jones, Ashli Stiers and Rhiannon Lenz finished eighth the freestyle relay in 2:00.02.

Lenz also placed 10th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:26.35.

The Carl Albert swim team set 41 personal records last Saturday at the Edmond Public Schools Invitational.

Carl Albert traveled to Harrah Monday night and will be home Friday against Altus.
