The Midwest City Beacon readers and staff helped hungry families this holiday season.

The newspaper’s eighth annual holiday food drive collected more than 387 pounds of food for people in eastern Oklahoma County.

Donations were collected at the Beacon office and FNB Community Bank branches in Midwest City, Del City, Choctaw and Harrah from Nov. 30 – Dec. 16. Employees delivered the food to the pantry on Dec. 16.

The donations will help bolster the food pantry during the busy holiday season.

Managing editor Jeff Harrison thanked readers and FNB Community Bank for their support.

“The rising cost of food has hit many in our community hard this holiday season and we appreciate support of our readers in this effort,” he said. “We’re also thankful for our supportive community partners at FNB Community Bank to make this community project possible.”

The holiday food drive has raised more than 2,500 pounds of food since its inception in 2015.

The Mid-Del Food Pantry, 322 N. Midwest Blvd., serves about 120 households per week. The non-profit organization was formed in 1984 by a local ministerial alliance. It is an independent organization but is supported by many churches, civic groups and individuals.
