Del City’s Colbert wins gold at Chickasha

All three Mid-Del wrestling teams competed in the Chickasha High School Classic last week.

Del City had the best showing with six placers including one champion in the boys division.

Evan Colbert led the Eagles with a title at 106 pounds.  He racked up two falls in the tournament before beating Brody Heusel in a 13-8 decision.

Patrick Counts (113), Dimitri Kizer (126), Jo’Quan Howard (144) and Deontre Buttram (165) each placed third. Ricklan Holes was fifth at 190 for Del City.

Carl Albert had five placers in the boys tournament.

That included a pair of finalists in Kasen Miller (138) and Raylyn Sherman (175). Miller lost his final match to El Reno’s William Heger in a major decision. Sherman finished runner-up at 175 pounds after losing to Braden Brown of Lawton MacArthur.

Grant Gober (150), Nathan Sutterfield (157), and Alex Sutterfield (215) each took third place. Gober pinned his final opponent, Skylar Red Elk of Lawton MacArthur, for third place. Nathan rounded out the tournament with a 5-1 decision against James Tucker of Blanchard. Alex beat Yukon’s Keetyn Oppelt 5-1 for third place.

Del City’s boys finished sixth as a team with 176.5 points. Carl Albert was eighth with 133.5.  Comanche won the team title with 206 points.

In the girls competition, Carl Albert’s Janelle Lynch (125) and Heidi Schultz (140-145) both took third.

Midwest City had a couple of fourth-place finishers in Megan Aaron (120) and Kiley Everette (190-235).

And Del City’s Kylea Birdsong was third (155).
