Carl Albert pushed past a rough start to beat rival Midwest City last week in a non-district baseball game.
The Titans surrendered four runs in the first two innings, but regained control with a five-run effort in the top of the third inning. Carl Albert added runs in each of the final three innings for a 12-4 win at Midwest City High School.
Midwest City grabbed the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first. Devin Sissons reached on an error that also scored DeAngelo Irvin Jr. tying the game at 1. Kenny Colston later hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Sissons and Bryan Williams for a 3-1 lead.
The Bombers added another run in the second when Kevin Nelson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for a 4-1 advantage.
That lead quickly fizzled with poor defense by the Bombers. The Titans scored three runs off errors to tie the game at 4-4. Brodie Hinson doubled in a run and later scored on a passed ball for a 6-4 lead.
Mason Novotny drove in a run in the fourth, and Tanner Norman hit a solo homer in the fifth, making it an 8-4 lead.
The Titans tacked on four more in the sixth. Declan Murphy hit a two-run double, and an error scored two more for the 12-4 score.
Novotny was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Norman went 1 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Irvin had two hits for the Bombers.
Samuel Gonzalez earned the win for the Titans, allowing three earned runs on three hits and five walks. He notched eight strikeouts. Jackson Fixico and Murphy also pitched in relief.
