Carl Albert earns top three finishes at Ada Tournament

Carl Albert’s tennis teams both finished in the top three last week at the Ada Tournament.
The Titans placed third in the boys tournament on March 6, while the girls team was runner-up the following day.
Emily Boyer and Rylee Reese brought home the gold in girls No. 1 doubles. They cruised through the first three rounds before taking host Ada in a third-set tiebreaker.
The No. 2 doubles team of Lily Bryant and Brylee Toney placed third. After a semifinal loss to Ada, the pair rebounded with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Byng in the third-place match.
Bailey Rusche and Georgia Mosher finished in the top five in singles.
Host Ada won the girls team competition with 62 points. Carl Albert and Ardmore both had 52 team points.
Carl Albert’s boys team had a pair of runner-up finishes. Tyler Shaw took second at No. 2 singles, as did Carter Reese and Ben Sutterfield at No. 2 doubles.
Carter Reese and Sutterfield beat Norman North in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 15-13) in the semifinals, but lost to Ada in the final (6-3, 6-3).
Shaw breezed through his first two opponents, and topped Ada’s Drew Lillard in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-1. Then in the finals, Shaw split the first two set, but dropped the tiebreaker 10-5.
At No. 1 doubles, Luke Fouquette and Keegan McLaughlin finished third. And T.J. Niles placed 10th at No. 1 singles.
Ada won the boys team title with 61 points, followed by Norman North (55) and Carl Albert (48).
Carl Albert’s team are off this week for spring break. They return to action March 22-23 for the Duncan West Tournament at the OKC Tennis Center.
