OKLAHOMA CITY – Rylee Reese and Emily Boyer haven’t spent much time on the tennis court together.
But you’d never guess it.
The Carl Albert duo stormed their way to another title last week at the Putnam City North Tournament March 29 at the OKC Tennis Center. Boyer and Reese took down Mustang’s Syana Keovongpheth and Vicky Zhang in the finals at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-3, 6-2. It was the pair’s third tournament victory this season.
They share a competitive yet upbeat demeanor on the court.
“We have positive energy and hold each other accountable,” Boyer said.
“We’re having fun and non one gets down,” she said. “We just have fun together.”
They weren’t the only ones having fun at the March 29 tournament. The Titans swept the doubles titles in the Putnam City North Tournament. Senior Brylee Toney and freshman Lily Bryant claimed first place at No. 2 doubles.
Bryant and Toney breezed by Putnam City West and OCS in the opening rounds. The pair overcame a first-set loss to Guthrie in the semifinals to reach the finals against Mustang. Bryant and Toney topped Ella Brocker and Grace Shriver 6-5, 6-1.
In singles play, freshman Bailey Rusche placed third in her varsity debut. She fell short against Mustang’s Madeline Hague in the semifinals, but rebounded to beat Putnam City North’s Lily Miller for third place.
Sophomore Georgia Mosher was sixth at No. 1 singles. She went 2-2 on the day with wins over Perry’s Rayken Cinnamon and Choctaw’s Shelbie Pherigo. In her two losses, Mosher won the first set but lost in tiebreakers.
The Titans won the team title with 55 points. Mustang was second with 50 points followed by host Putnam City North (48).
Carl Albert competed in the Suburban Conference Tournament Monday and will play a dual against Heritage Hall on Thursday.
