Carl Albert boys sweep conference tennis tournament

Carl Albert’s boys tennis team flexed their muscles last week in the Suburban Conference tournament.

The Titans cruised to another conference title by winning all four positions.

Keegan McLaughlin and Tyler Shaw claimed the singles titles. Luke Fouquette and Carter Reese took the No. 1 doubles championship and Jake Farley, and T.J. Niles were winners at No. 2 doubles.

McLaughlin took the No. 1 singles title with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Guthrie’s Zale Coleman-Hill. Shaw beat Shawnee’s Hagen Wells (6-0, 6-0) in the No. 2 singles finals.

Fouquette and Reese beat Del City (6-1, 6-0), Shawnee (6-1, 6-1) and Piedmont (6-2, 6-1). Elgin also went 3-0 on the day, but the Titans won the tiebreaker. Farley and Niles beat Piedmont in the finals, 6-3, 6-0.

Carl Albert traveled to Heritage Hall on Thursday for a dual. The Titans battled the Chargers but came up empty in a 4-0 loss.

McLaughlin beat Owen Fellrath in the first set but lost in a tiebreaker (3-6, 6-3, 10-6). Shaw lost to Larsen Van Horn (6-2, 6-1) in 2 singles. Fouquette and Reese lost at No. 1 doubles (6-2, 6-3). Farley and Ben Sutterfield fell at No. 2 doubles by the same score.

Carl Albert’s boys will compete in the Guthrie Tournament Wednesday at the OKC Tennis Center. They will then travel to Durant April 18 for a tournament.
