Carl Albert boys tennis close out regular season with Shawnee title

Carl Albert’s tennis teams wrapped up the regular season last week with the Shawnee Tournament. The Lady Titans placed fifth on Friday and the Titans won the boys tournament Saturday.
The CAHS boys swept three of the four competitions. Keegan McLaughlin and Tyler Shaw were singles champions and TJ Niles and Carter Reese won at No. 2 doubles. Luke Fouquette and Ben Sutterfield finished fifth at No. 1 doubles.
McLaughlin and Shaw both topped Norman opponents in the finals. McLaughlin beat Caleb Stovall at No. 1 singles and Shaw dominated Owen Willenborg (6-0, 6-3).
Fouquette and Sutterfield lost to Durant in the quarterfinals but recovered with wins over Stillwater and Norman for fifth place. Niles and Reese capped a perfect day by beating Byng in the finals, 6-3, 7-5.
In the girls tournament, Georgia Mosher (No. 1 singles) and Lily Bryant and Rylee Reese (No. 1 doubles) took fifth. Bailey Rusche finished sixth at No. 2 singles and Jayna Allard and Brylee Toney were seventh at No. 2 doubles.
Mosher won her final two matches after a three-set loss to Tara Lack of Tecumseh. She beat Norman’s Claudia Butler-Kibby (8-6, 6-0) and Sapulpa’s Edie Chapman (6-2, 6-3).
The girls regional tournament was Monday at Heritage Hall and state will be Friday and Saturday at the OKC Tennis Center. The boys regional and state is the following week.
