Mid-Del girls advance to state golf

Carl Albert and Midwest City girls golfers punched their tickets to state last week at regionals.
Midwest City’s Riley Friesen qualified for the Class 6A girls golf state tournament after placing sixth overall at the 6A West Regional April 25 at Westwood Golf Course. The senior shot a 40 during the tournament that was reduced to nine holes because of the weather.
Friesen is a three-time state qualifier.
Carl Albert’s girls golf team advanced to the Class 5A state tournament after placing second at regionals Tuesday at Aqua Canyon in Guthrie. The tournament was shortened to nine holes due to the weather.
Bishop Kelly won the regional with a team score of 168. Carl Albert was second with 182.
Kamryn Zuniga and Peyton Black both shot 41 and Zuniga won a playoff for third place. Miah Luong finished with a 46.
Kelly’s Elle Stanger and Amelia Johnson finished one and two after both shot a 39.
The 6A state tournament will be played at MeadowBrook Country Club in Tulsa. The 5A state competition will be played at Dornick Hills Golf and Country Club in Ardmore. Both tournaments will take place May 3-4.
