American Legion holds 64TH annual Memorial Day Observance

American Legion Post 170 held their 64th Annual Memorial Day Observance at the Arlington Memorial Gardens in Midwest City on Memorial Day, May 29, 2023. The following members of the American Legion, under the direction of Commander Rick Doty, recognized all their veterans that have passed this past year.

Ricky Compala, Asst. Vice Commander: Nancy Lucas, Adjutant: John Mathews, Sgt. in Arms; Casey Templeton, 2nd Vice Commander; Jim Street, Exec. Board Members were all present for this observance at 10 am. 

All the Veterans Roll of Honor names were called by Commander Doty.  He stressed to all those present, when you meet a military person, thank them and if they served in Vietnam, “Welcome Home”.

The Poppy Girls, Aurora and Peyton Templeton, placed poppies at each of the crosses next to the window of the building where the audience could observe.

Mr. Samuel Duane Young from the Choctaw Area asked everyone to remember his friend Duane Sossman. After the ceremony several talked about knowing Sossman. 

It was announced that 5,500 flags were posted on graves and would need volunteers to help pick them up.

Everyone was invited to a Free Luncheon at Post 170 as the ceremony was concluded.
