Emily Boyer named 2022-23 girls tennis player of the year

Carl Albert’s Emily Boyer has been named the 2022-23 Jim Thorpe High School Player of the Year for girls tennis.

The Jim Thorpe High School Players of the Year Awards are presented annually by the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame. Over two dozen high school students are honored and recognized for their athletic accomplishments and academic achievements, as well as one high school football coach and one college football coach for their respective awards.

Boyer was a three-time state placer in doubles at Carl Albert. This year, she and Rylee Reese placed fourth at the Class 5A state tournament. The pair went 26-4 and were runners-up in the regionals. They won six tournaments this season, taking first at Ada, Duncan West, Putnam City North, Guthrie, Suburban Conference, and the Phil Barnes 5A Public Schools Tennis Tournament.

The recent graduate earned all-state honors in tennis and volleyball as selected by the Oklahoma Coaches Association.

Boyer plans to attend Oklahoma Baptist University on a volleyball scholarship.
