Midwest City softball tops Del City on senior night

Midwest City closed out the regular season with a pair of wins against Del City.

The Lady Bombers won 11-0 last Thursday night and 4-1 on Friday night for senior night.

In the first game, Karissa Payne had a huge game at the plate, going 3 for 3 with two doubles and four RBIs. Noreli Brown also had three hits including a pair of doubles.

Brown was a force in the circle with a five-inning no-hitter. She finished with 15 strikeouts and allowed only one walk.

Kenee Thompson, Kore’Yanna Matthews and Maliyah Harrison each drove in a run in the win.

On Friday night, the Lady Bombers celebrated their four seniors before the game. The seniors included Kore’Yanna Matthews, Maliyah Harrison, Karissa Payne and Amylia Peteet.
Del City got an early jump on Midwest City with one run in the first. Rayna Nash drew a walk and later scored on a passed ball for a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Bombers pulled ahead with two runs in the third. K Berry scored on an error to tie the game. Payne followed with an RBI double for a 2-1 lead.

They added two more in the fourth. Thompson hit an RBI triple and Thompson scored on a wild pitch for a 4-1 lead.

Brown retired the next three batters in order to perverse the win. The sophomore finished with 12 strikeouts in the win.

Both teams will compete in regionals this week. Midwest City heads to Deer Creek for a Class 5A regional. The state tournament will be Oct. 12-14.
