Carl Albert’s football team took their show on the road last Thursday night in a 70-0 win over Shawnee at Oklahoma Baptist University.
The Titans (6-0, 2-0) controlled the Wolves (1-4, 0-2) in all three phases of the game as they extended their winning streak to 17 games.
Junior quarterback Kevin Sperry had a big night as he completed 8 of 14 passes for 112 yards and one touchdown. He also ran for 94 yards and two touchdowns, including a 59-yard sprint to the end zone.
“Last year I ran a lot more, and I’m completely fine not running as much,” Sperry told Oklahoma Sports Network in a postgame interview. “On that touchdown, I thought I was running in slow motion because I hadn’t run that far in a while. It’s fun being able to run the ball a bit.”
Xavier Robinson carried the ball 14 times for 134 yards and three touchdowns. Kash Ferris, Caden Davis and Carl’veon Young also scored in the game.
Trey Washington led the way receiving with three catches for 63 yards and one score. Trystan Haynes added a punt return touchdown.
Defensively, Carl Albert forced four turnovers. Jake Farley had two interceptions and Jakyre Carter and Young had one apiece. Brock Johnson, Cody Voelker, Andraco Mason and Emerson Williams each had a sack.
The Titans needed less than a minute to get on the board. Sperry hit Trey Washington for a 37-yard pass play. Xavier Robinson then zigzagged through the defense for a 27-yard score with 11:01 in the first.
Carl Albert forced a punt and got the ball back on the Shawnee 32. On fourth and goal, Sperry lofted the ball high in the corner of the end zone for Washington. That made it a 14-0 score with 6:42 in the first.
An interception by Young led to the Titans third score of the quarter. Washington took a pass down to the 1-yard line. Sperry then took it himself on the QB keeper for a 21-0 advantage.
The Titans added one more score before the end of the first. Trystan Haynes nearly scored on a punt return before getting wrestled down at the 7. Robinson punched it in for his second score. That put Carl Albert on top 28-0.
On the second play of the second, Sperry bolted through the middle of the defense for a 59-yard touchdown run.
Haynes followed with an 82-yard punt return at the 6:51 mark in the second.
Carl Albert led 42-0 at halftime.
The Titans continued to pull away in the third quarter. They scored three more rushing touchdowns from Robinson, Davis and Ferris for a 63-0 lead.
Young added a 39-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for a 70-0 final.
Carl Albert returns home Friday night against Southeast (2-3, 0-1).
