Del City’s softball team advanced to day two of the Class 5A regional tournament last week.
The Lady Eagles lost to Duncan in the first round on Oct. 3, but topped Lawton Eisenhower later that day in an elimination game.
But they didn’t fare any better in their second go at Duncan on Oct. 4. The Lady Demons scored 12 runs in the second inning and went on to win 18-1 in the semifinal game.
After giving up four runs in the first inning, Del City showed some life when Ryen Gaddis scored an inside the park home run. That made it a 4-1 score.
Duncan’s big inning put the game out of reach. The Lady Demons went on to lose to host Carl Albert in the regional championship.
Del City opened the regional with a 16-2 loss against Duncan.
They followed with a solid 10-5 win against Eisenhower. The Lady Eagles racked up 12 hits and scored in four innings for the victory.
Gaddis went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Ava Vara was 2 for 4 with three runs driven in. Gina West had two RBIs in the win.
