Carl Albert’s run to the volleyball state tournament came up short last week.
The Lady Titans fell to Claremore 3-1 (25-20, 25-17, 15-25, 25-19) in the first round of a Class 5A regional tournament on Oct. 9.
After dropping the first two sets, Carl Albert (7-22) dominated in the third set. Eden Schroeder recorded five kills and an ace. Rylee Reese added three kills and Cherish Watson had a pair in the 25-15 win.
Claremore (28-7) wouldn’t let it get any close as they finished off the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth.
The Zebras went on to beat Tulsa Memorial 3-0 in the regional final and advance to the state tournament.
Carl Albert went into the regionals on a hot streak – having won three of their last four matches. The Lady Titans qualified for the state tournament the past five years.
Schroeder led the team with 10 kills and one ace. Reese had seven kills and two blocks. Kailey Stuart served up six aces along with five kills, and Watson tallied six kills.
Claremore was led by Ella Ramsey with 13 kills and Claire Hardage with 6 ½ blocks and 6 kills.
