Midwest City softball team earns all-district honors

Midwest City’s softball team had several players recognized in the all-district awards.

Senior Karissa Payne (utility) and sophomore Noreli Brown (pitcher) were named to the Class 6A-4 All-District Team, while Addy Scott (shortstop), Livia Davis (utility), Kenee Thompson (catcher) and Kore’Yana Matthews (third base) received honorable mention.

Payne led the Bombers with a .500 average and a .580 on base percentage. She had 34 hits on the season including 10 doubles, five triples with nine walks and only four strikeouts, and drove in 22 runs. As a utility player, she saw time at second, shortstop, third and catcher.

Brown was Midwest City’s ace this season. The sophomore threw 137 innings and struck out 252 or nearly 40% of the 669 batters she faced. Brown helped herself batting .381 with an on base percentage of .452.  She finished with 12 doubles, three triples and one home run along with 21 RBIs. Brown played shortstop and center field when she was not pitching.

As the leadoff hitter, Scott batted .423 in the leadoff spot with a .529 OBP. She had two doubles, five triples and two home runs. Scott had 11 walks and zero strikeouts. She started at shortstop and second base.

Thompson hit .324 with an on base percentage of .432 with 22 hits including three doubles and one triple.

Davis batted .322 with a .506 OBP as the two-hole hitter.  She scored 21 runs and had nine RBIs. The versatile left-hander played left field, center field, first and second base.

Matthews finished with a .306 batting average with two doubles, two triples and 11 RBIs.

Mustang took several of the top individual awards including Eden Anderson (Player of the Year), Amelia Mason (Pitcher of the Year), Arionna McElroy (co-Defensive Player of the Year) and Lacy Darity (Coach of the Year).

Brynn Daniel (Bixby) and Jadison Ackerman (Edmond North) were named co-Offensive Players of the Year. McElroy, Gia Saggese (Edmond North) and Kindal Biggs (Bixby) shared the Defensive Player of the Year Award.
