Crews have started work on a new Whataburger restaurant in Midwest City.

Whataburger is building a new location at 5925 SE 15th St., near the Regal Warren Theatre. The restaurant will fill the last vacant property along SE 15th St. in the Sooner Rose shopping center.

“I’m glad they’re coming here, and they will do incredibly well in front of the $20 million movie theatre,” said Robert Coleman, economic development director for Midwest City, last year. “It’s good to have that corner lot (SE 15th St. and Buena Vista Ave.) filled and bring jobs to the area.”

The 3,500-square-foot building is projected to cost $1.4 million according to a building permit, which was issued in July. The company purchased the property from Arvest Bank in August for $1.6 million, according to online county property records.

The new restaurant will be the company’s second location in Midwest City. Whataburger opened its current Midwest City location at 2914 S. Douglas Blvd. in 2012, according to county records.

Whataburger was originally at 6525 E Reno Ave, Midwest City, OK 73110, but closed that location when they built the new store at 2914 S. Douglas Blvd. They moved locations because of the foot traffic it lost when Heritage Mall closed.
