An Edmond man was arrested after police say he fled the scene of an injury accident.

Officers responded to a wreck involving three vehicles near NE 10th St. and Spencer Rd. about 9:05 p.m. on Jan. 5.

According to an affidavit, witnesses told police that the suspect rear-ended another vehicle, causing it to spin and strike a third vehicle. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old David Ngarui, appeared to be intoxicated and jumped over a fence and was hiding in a nearby backyard.

Police found Ngarui and reported a strong odor of alcohol. The man was allegedly stumbling and would only mumble and not speak much. An officer found an open bottle of Tito’s vodka in the front passenger seat of Ngarui’s vehicle, which was nearly empty, according to the report.

The officer placed Ngauri under arrest. The man allegedly resisted arrest and had to forcibly be put into the backseat of the patrol vehicle. Ngauri allegedly kicked the officer in the chest, breaking the mount for the body camera.

The suspect was medically cleared at a local hospital before being transported to jail for booking.

A passenger from one of the other vehicles involved in the crash was transported to the hospital with head and neck injuries.

Ngauri is facing complaints of personal injury accident while DUI, leaving the scene of accident involving injury, and assault and battery on a police officer.
