The Carl Albert girls seemed to be handling Sand Springs’ defensive pressure just fine Saturday in the finals of the Titan Classic.

That was until the fourth quarter.

Sand Springs dialed up the pressure for a 61-49 win over Carl Albert in the championship game.

The Lady Titans went up by nine points with just over a minute to play in the third quarter. Jakary Brown sank a pair of free throws to make it a 39-31 lead.

Sand Springs squeezed in a couple of baskets before the end of the quarter, cutting the deficit to four points.

The Sandites continued to roll as they went on a 15-0 run that carried over into the fourth quarter. Taiona Morris scored a layup with just over 6 minutes to play, giving Sand Springs a 46-40 lead.

Brown snapped the scoring drought with a 3-pointer in transition. Kauri Wilson responded with a layup and was fouled. She hit the free throw for a 3-point play with 4:34 to play.

Ausha Moore got the Lady Titans within two points on a pair of free throws with 3:43 left. But Sand Springs kept their foot on the gas for the 61-49 win.

Carl Albert led 24-22 at halftime. Brown scored a layup off a steal from Evie Mitchell for the halftime lead.

Sand Springs hit 19 of 20 free throw attempts.

Jakary Brown and Audrey Plunkett led the Lady Titans with 14 points apiece. Moore had 10 points.

Moore and Evi Mitchell were named to the all-tournament team. Wilson won the tournament MVP honors, while Morris and Hope Bump were all-tournament selections for Sand Springs.

Carl Albert advanced to the tournament finals with wins over Bishop McGuiness and Westmoore.

The Lady Titans beat the Irish 65-60 in overtime in the opening round on Thursday. Moore led the way with 24 points, while Brown had 15 and Plunkett added 12 in the win.

On Friday, Carl Albert cruised past Westmoore 41-23. Plunkett was the leading scorer with 11 points and Moore added 10 in the win.

Sand Springs reached the title game by beating Del City 63-52 in the first round, and Edmond Memorial 58-54 in overtime in the semifinals.
