Miah Luong had a feeling it was going to be a good day.

The Carl Albert junior opened the Class 5A East Regional Tournament with an eagle at Oak Hills Golf and Country Club in Ada.

“I hit my second shot just off the green and was feeling really confident with my chipping,” Luong said. “I chipped and it kept rolling into the hole. It was a good way to start the round.”

Luong weathered through a rough patch before finishing strong to capture the regional title. She shot par or better on six of the last nine holes for a five-over-par 77. Durant’s Chloe Henderson was one back with 78.

“(Henderson) and I were neck and neck the whole time and I knew if I could beat her, I’d have it,” Luong said. “That was my first time to win a high school tournament and I’m really happy about it.”

The Lady Titans were second overall with 354, finishing four behind leader Ada with 350. Durant was third with 368 and Claremore rounded out the top four with 398.

Senior Peyton Black was seventh with an 88 and Addy McAlister placed 11th with a 92.  Kamryn Cofer (97) took 17th place and Ily Strickland (104) was 27th.

The Carl Albert girls are looking to defend their state title from 2023. They will compete in the 5A state tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Muskogee Golf Club in Muskogee.

Their biggest challenges will likely come from Ada, Bishop Kelley and Bishop McGuinness, who won the West regional by 20 strokes over Duncan.
