On Aug. 22, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Mustang Police Department to assist with an officer-involved shooting near Mustang Road and SW 89th Street.

Hunter McKee, the public information manager with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, said the incident had started around 7:30 p.m. when an officer with the Mustang Police Department was responding to a welfare check.

“When that officer responded, they encountered an adult male,” McKee said. “During that encounter with the adult male the officer-involved shooting occurred.”

According to an OSBI release Friday morning, the officer provided verbal commands to the man. He did not comply and instead advanced toward the officer.

Officers attempted to perform life-saving measures on scene.

McKee confirmed the man was killed and that the officer was left uninjured.

“The OSBI would like to thank the City of Mustang Police Department for assisting us with this case.” An OSBI news release from Friday said.

The case is still under investigation. The Mustang Times will provide updates as they become available.
