The Bulldogs are district champions for the first time since 2013 after an exciting, 44-36 win against Oklahoma Christian Academy on Friday night.

Minco quarterback Shannon Williams had a huge game for the Bulldogs as senior running back Tucker Halstead, who usually carries the office, hurt his angle in the first half and wouldn’t run the ball in the second half.

Williams finished the game with 108 passing yards and two touchdowns and 186 rushing yards with two more touchdowns on the ground.

“Shannon stepped it up big time,” said Coach Brock Wardlaw. “He has been getting better every week.”

OCA got on the board first and Minco answered with a one-yard touchdown run by Tucker Halstead, but Minco missed the two-point conversion, so they still trailed 7-6.

The game was knotted, 22-22, at halftime and both teams scored a touchdown with a two-point conversion to make it a 30-30 game going into the fourth quarter.

In the final quarter, Williams threw a touchdown pass to Charles Sanders and also ran the ball in for a one-yard score to hold off OCA, 44-36.

Defensively, Trent Littlejohn had a big game with 14 tackles and freshman Lane McMahon forced two fumbles and recovered two fumbles.

With the victory, Minco clinched the district title, meaning they will host their first playoff game. The Bulldogs host Wellston on Friday for senior night.

“Win or lose, we are still district champs,” Wardlaw said. “I am not sure how much how starters will play in that game, but we want our seniors to have some playing time for Senior Night.”
