A popular Yukon restaurant is coming soon to Mustang. The Lokal will be located in the new Mustang Plaza Shopping Center near Sara Rd. and SH 152. It’s under construction now and located behind the Applebee’s restaurant and in front of Lowe’s Home Improvement.
Owners Roger and Kimberley Smith are looking forward to bringing their Oklahoma home cooking to Mustang. They’ve created a restaurant that represents the great state of Oklahoma with their food choices and decor.
“We consider ourselves to be Okie Cuisine. And what we mean by that- is you’re going to find a lot of Oklahoma in the menu. We have blackened or fried catfish. We have chicken fried steak. We bring in Bison meat and make Bison burgers and meatloaf. Basically traditional home cooking. A big staple of Oklahoma food is what you’ll see,” said owner Roger Smith.
Their best selling food item is really what put the Lokal on the map. It’s a special appetizer their chef created to offer something unique and different.
“It’s really what gets people in the door for the first time. We actually do a fried deviled egg. Which is definitely something different. Everyone was like this thing is amazing and so good. So we put it on the menu. It’s half boiled egg and we put some batter on it and the rest is kind of history,” said Smith.
The new restaurant will be 4400 square feet and seat about 175 people. They are proud to be Oklahomans and it will have an urban farmhouse Oklahoma decor.
They will serve modern Okie Cuisine with craft beer, local wines and mixed drinks.
“We are going to have a big bar and cocktail area. We are more of a sit down restaurant. You come in have a drink, eat and socialize. We will have quite a few TVs on and play sports anytime OSU, OU or the Thunder are playing. We will have those on supporting our local teams,” he said.
The restaurant will also serve a great selection of quality cheesecakes and desserts.
The owners decided to add the Mustang location due to popular demand and many requests from current customers.
“Me and my wife actually use to live there. So we are very familiar with Mustang. And most of our friends and family live in Mustang. People would drive in from Mustang to my location there in Yukon. They would say man I wish you would put one in Mustang. We kept hearing that and hearing that. A lot of public demand, so we decided we have to do it,” said Smith.
The Lokal has a big following in Yukon and customers are excited about the new Mustang location.
“ I’m obsessed with this place and am now so exited,” said customer Story Logan.
Alexandria Elizabeth agreed, “So excited for y’all!! What a big adventure! Mustang will love this!”
The Lokal owners and contractors are shooting for a December grand opening. Can’t wait that long? Visit their Yukon restaurant at 10 West Main Street.
