Mid-Del Schools is welcoming a new director of child nutrition.

Denise Smith was approved for the position last Monday during the school board’s monthly meeting.

Smith currently serves as the Child Nutrition Federal Programs Director for Atoka Public Schools.  She previously worked as the administrative coordinator for child nutrition programs at the Oklahoma State Department of Education, and has experience in public school cafeteria positions in Millwood, Newcastle, Kellyville, Norman, and Augusta, Kansas.

Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational management and a master’s degree in organizational management at Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa.

She is replacing Shelly Fox who retired recently as director of child nutrition. Fox worked in child nutrition for 32 years including the past six at Mid-Del Schools. She also worked in Oklahoma City, Edmond and the State Department of Education.

Fox said she is retiring to spend more time with her family.

“I want to spend more time with my grandchildren and help them with their remote learning,” she said. “I haven’t been able to help like they need.”
