Champions crowned in Shelden Williams League

Elementary schools competed for bragging rights and championships at the Shelden Williams League postseason tournament Dec. 17 at JE Sutton Fieldhouse.

The youth basketball league includes boys and girls teams from Mid-Del elementary schools. The season ran from late October until before winter break. The games were played on Saturday mornings.

The postseason tournament included three divisions for boys and two for girls.

Pleasant Hill won the third and fourth grade boys divisions, while Midwest City Elementary was the fifth-grade boys champion. Pleasant Hill beat Midwest City Elementary 34-9 in the third grade boys game, and won 32-30 over Ridgecrest in the fourth grade boys title. Midwest City Elementary then took the fifth grade boys title with a 43-36 victory over Ridgecrest.

In the girls division, Country Estates won the third/fourth grade division, and Pleasant Hill took the title in fourth/fifth grade. Pleasant Hill beat Cleveland Bailey 25-8 in the fourth/fifth grade game, and Country Estates won 30-6 over Pleasant Hill in the third/fourth grade finals.

Midwest City alumnus and former NBA player Shelden Williams sponsored the event and presented trophies to the winning teams. It was the second year for the youth league.
