Carl Albert’s girls basketball team isn’t hesitating this summer.
Just days after school got out, the Lady Titans were getting after it in their summer workouts.
Carl Albert competed May 23-24 in a team camp in Perkins. The Lady Titans had two teams that played a combined 12 games during the two-day camp. Bethel, Manford, Perkins, Shawnee and defending Class 3A state champion Jones also played in the team camp.
Carl Albert will have big shoes to fill after losing seniors Ariana Diaz, Kennedy Cofer and Kamryn Sutton. They were four-year varsity players and helped reach the state semifinals this year.
But the cupboard is not bare. The Lady Titans have several talented young players including sophomore Skylar Anderson, Jakary Brown and Essence Curry and seniors Ausha Moore and Lanie Moore.
“We lost three really good seniors and now we need other girls to step up and play new roles,” Richey said. “We’ll see how it goes.”
Richey said he was especially pleased with the team’s effort this summer.
“They just play hard all the time and I know it’s just summer, but they bring it every game,” he said.
Richey hopes the summer camps give his team time to develop continuity.
“We mesh together a lot of different lineups at these team camps and find out who works together,” Richey said. “We have some incoming freshman that need to learn our system and work together with our returners.”
The girls will travel to Kingfisher this week and Stillwater next week. Midwest City, Edmond Santa Fe, Guthrie, and Deer Creek.
