Midwest City and Del City Chambers of Commerce come together for a Fill the Bus Campaign in support of the Mid-Del Schools.
Over the following three Fridays in July from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Mid-Del School District and both Chambers will host the Fill the Bus event.
The first Fill the Bus will be held July 14 at Sam’s Club located at 6521 SE 29th St., the second will be held July 21 at Walmart located at 5401 Tinker Diagonal and the last event will be held July 28 at Crest Foods located at 249 N. Douglas Blvd.
In previous years, the Mid-Del Schools have given teachers and staff donations gathered at the annual Welcome Back Event. This is the first year the Mid-Del Schools are partaking in a Fill the Bus Campaign.
“We just decided we wanted to do something a little different so we’re going to park one of our buses at each of those fill the bus events and they are going to hang banners on it and they have the mayor and ambassadors taking in the school supplies,” said Stacey Boyer with the Mid-Del Schools.
Basic school supplies are needed such as folders, paper, pencils, Kleenex, Clorox wipes, paper towels. Additionally other necessities are needed, such as dried fruit, crackers, cookies, socks, hair ties, plain white t-shirts and more.
“Some households in our communities are lacking basic items and our schools will now, hopefully, gain the resources to meet those needs for our students,” said Shaina Bennett, President for the Midwest City Chamber.
Get involved and set out to fill the bus with supplies the Mid-Del School students need for the upcoming school year.
“Albeit our first year to host Fill the Bus, we have been supporting our school district with our Celebrating Education program for many years,” said Bennett. “This year, we decided to expand and provide more opportunities for our members to gain exposure and get the community involved.”
