Midwest City’s softball team snapped a recent slide with a big win on the road Thursday night against Edmond North.
Norelli Brown struck out 15 batters and Karissa Payne drove in five runs in a 9-8 win in district play.
The Lady Bombers led much of the game and added insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Payne hit an RBI triple to center field, and later scored on an RBI single by Brown to give Midwest City a 9-5 lead.
That insurance came in handy in the bottom of the inning.
North scored on a two-run triple, and later stole home to make it a 9-8 score. The next batter tripled, putting the tying runner in scoring position. Brown didn’t flinch and struck out the next batter on three pitches to seal the win.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak.
Payne finished the game 4 for 4 at the plate with three triples and five RBIs. Addy Scott was 3 for 4 with three runs scored.
Brown threw a complete game, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits with 15 strikeouts.
Midwest City faced Ponca City and Tulsa Union earlier this week. They will be home Wednesday against Muskogee and travel to Booker T Washington on Friday.
