A man was shot after allegedly breaking into a Midwest City home Wednesday morning, police said.

According to an affidavit, at about 11:44 a.m. officers responded to a shooting in the 2100 block of Flannery Dr.

A homeowner told police he was at home with his girlfriend when he heard dogs barking. He opened the bedroom door and saw a man, who he didn’t recognize, standing in the hallway.

The intruder allegedly shouted in Spanish and charged down the hall towards him. The homeowner closed the door and grabbed a pistol from a dresser. He shot the intruder once in the chest as the man stormed into the bedroom. The intruder ran from the home and collapsed in a neighbor’s yard, according to the report.

The girlfriend identified the suspect as her estranged husband, Mauricio Delarosa, 34.  She told police that Delarosa knew she was dating someone, but she didn’t give him any information. Delarosa had been calling her repeatedly that morning. Her phone had 170 calls from him in the past day, according to police.

The homeowner said he had never met Delarosa before and only knew that his girlfriend had domestic problems with her estranged husband.

Delarosa was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

The suspect will be taken to jail after treatment. He faces complaints of burglary (first degree) and stalking, according to police.
