A golf tournament is a popular fundraiser event for many groups.
Mid-Del Group Home took a different twist on the event Sunday as they hosted their first ever TopGolf Tournament.
Organizers said it was a fun event that residents and people of all ages could participate in.
“Golf tournaments are fun, and this added such a different aspect to it and made it a family-friendly event,” said Austin Waddle, co-chair of the MDGH board. “It wasn’t just for people who actually golf to be out on the course and participate. Everyone could come and have a good time.”
The event took place at TopGolf in north Oklahoma City. Teams competed in the golf driving range game. The electronically tracked golf balls are automatically scored as players hit various targets.
“I think the residents, and everyone had a blast,” said Missy Rice, co-chair of MDGH.
The event included lunch, a silent auction and raffle.
About 150 people participated in the event.
The Dinos team won the tournament. Confidence Chevrolet was second and Allied Dental took third place.
All proceeds from the event will directly benefit Mid-Del Group Home, which provides services and care to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
“It’s to improve the overall Mid-Del Group Home and upkeep for all of the facilities,” Rice said.
The goals of MDGH are to enhance independence, encourage integration, and promote respect for individual rights.
