Midwest City police arrested two people for stealing credit card information at gas pumps in the metro area.

Abel Rodriguez, 30, and Daniolgis Labanino, 41, were arrested at a home in Spencer on Feb. 6 while police executed a search warrant.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Rodriguez admitted to placing numerous skimmers on gas pumps all over the metro and other areas. He said he had been doing it for almost a year and makes about $400 – $600 a day.

The skimmers are electronic devices that pull credit card information from customers. Rodriguez then transferred the stolen data onto a gift card to create a duplicate credit card.

He said he used the duplicate credit cards to buy large amounts of diesel fuel that he resold at a lower price for cash.

During a search of the home, police found numerous pieces of credit card skimming devices including keypad overlays, internal skimmers, fake card readers, and false wiring equipment. Several cloned cards were also found.

Labanino said he’s only been here for four months and denied involvement in the crime. He admitted that the card skimming equipment and cloned cards were in his room, but said they belonged to Rodriguez. He said he had been in the truck with Rodriguez at gas stations but that he did not know what he was doing, according to the report.

Both suspects were transported to the Midwest City jail. They are both facing charges for possession of incomplete cards, possession/use of a device to access card information, conspiracy to commit a felony and identity theft.
