Midwest City and Choctaw had partnered for a youth sports league the past year with games played at Bouse Park in Choctaw and the MAC and Reed Ballpark in Midwest City. The league was not renewed for the fall.
In June, Choctaw city leaders wanted to have a private group manage Bouse Park and sent out a request for proposals.
Josh Ryan, Midwest City parks and recreation director, said they decided to move forward with a Midwest City league due to uncertainty about a private organization running Bouse Park.
“That would’ve required us to sign an agreement with the third party and we didn’t know how fast that worked out,” Ryan said.
Stuart Drake, acting Choctaw city manager, said it had been a good partnership between the two cities, but Choctaw wanted to go in another direction.
“We’re looking for someone to run it and potentially bring in other sports and maximize our growth there,” Drake said.
Choctaw is also hosting a fall youth sports league.
