Mid-Del Group Home is hosting their sixth annual Run, Walk, or Roll for Independence fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 24 at Joe B. Barnes Regional Park in Midwest City.
People can take part in the 1-mile fun run or 5k race through the park.
The event begins at 8 a.m. and participants are asked to arrive at least 30 minutes early for check in. The check-in will be at Mid-Del Group Home Workshop, 1540 Republic Circle. They will also accept registrations on the day of the event. The cost is $35.
The starting and finish line will be located on the southwest side of the park near Century Blvd. and SE 15th St.
All proceeds from the event will directly benefit Mid-Del Group Home, which provides services and care to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The goals of MDGH are to enhance independence, encourage integration, and promote respect for individual rights.
“We love to bring community together to have fun with our residents and staff,” said Joel Bain, executive director. “The one way we can get in front of people is through events and that helps to bring in more people to understand what we do here and what we offer.”
Proceeds from the event will be used to cover increased insurance costs. Bain said their insurance costs jumped by 26% or $18,000 over the last year.
As of last Thursday, 125 people have registered for the event – including two who will participate virtually.
