Sport is full of old sayings and slogans.

None may be more well known or repeated than the saying “There’s no I in team.”

Carl Albert’s volleyball team is taking that message to heart and finding success doing so.

The Lady Titans beat Del City 25-17, 25-12, 25-8 on Thursday for senior night. It was the team’s seventh straight victory.

“I think we all started trusting teammates more,” said senior Kristin Stoeser. “Volleyball isn’t a one-person sport. Once you start playing for everyone you start winning.”

Stoeser led the team with eight kills and had two aces against Del City. Kailey Stuart finished with two kills, 10 assists and 10 aces. Eden Schroeder finished with seven kills and seven aces.

The Lady Titans had an up-and-down start to the season but are now in line to host a regional tournament. The top eight ranked schools will host a postseason tournament. Carl Albert is currently ranked sixth.

That’s a far cry from last year when the team won only seven games all season.

“It feels really good compared to last year,” Stoeser said. “All the players have stepped up a lot. We’ve taken the losses from last year and improved all around.”

Carl Albert will close out the regular season this week. They hosted Class 3A’s No. 1 Christian Heritage on Tuesday and will be home Thursday against Shawnee.

Class 5A regionals are set for Oct. 14.
