Chipotle Mexican Grill is planning to open a location in Midwest City.
The restaurant will be located at 7311 SE 29th St., in the former Tacos 4 Life building inside Town Center Plaza.
City officials said the company was issued a building permit on Jan. 16. The remodeling work is estimated to cost $675,000. Electrical contractors were on site Friday afternoon.
There is no timeline for the work or an expected opening.
Robert Coleman, economic development director for the City of Midwest City, said Chipotle had expressed interest in Midwest City for some time and was pleased to see them fill a vacant space in the shopping center.
Chipotle will be the second fast casual restaurant in Town Center Plaza – joining competitor Qdoba, 7191 SE 29th St. The shopping center has restrictions on businesses that are direct competitors with current tenants. Coleman said the property that Chipotle is leasing was not part of the original development and is exempt from the restriction.
“I think both restaurants have pretty loyal customers,” Coleman said. “The Qdoba here has very good traffic and is one of their busiest locations.”
Chipotle has over 3,600 restaurants in the United States and overseas. There are 16 locations in Oklahoma.

Thanks for putting a Chipoles in Midwest City.
