Del City appointed the newest member of its planning commission and also reappointed four existing members at its Jan. 21 city council meeting. Terms for all of the appointed members last until September 1, 2027.

All five members were nominated by the mayor and approved unanimously by the council. The one new appointment was Jacque Mooney for Ward 3. Mooney has previously served on the planning commission and was also previously the councilperson for Ward 3.

“The thing that always stuck out to me about Jacque is she always does her homework, she always comes prepared, she knows the issues inside and out,” said Mayor Floyd A. Eason.

Mooney was sworn in at the meeting and said she was happy to be back on the commission.

Joe Satterwhite was reappointed for Ward 1, with Eason calling him an “anchorpoint” on the planning commission.

Joshua Schultz was reappointed for Ward 2. Schultz also serves as the executive director of the Del City Chamber of Commerce.

“He will probably someday be governor of Oklahoma, so he’s a guy to keep your eye on right there,” Eason said.
Michelle Caruso, who Mayor Eason said has done an “outstanding job” on the commission, was reappointed for Ward 3 and serves as the commission’s chairperson.

Sam Turk was reappointed for Ward 4, with Eason describing him as a “moral compass” for the commission.

“He doesn’t always think like everybody else but I appreciate his opinion and he is a valued member of the planning commission,” Eason said.

The city’s planning commission meets once a month and has representatives from each ward. Members serve 3-year, staggered terms and must live in Del City. They help coordinate the city’s development, working alongside city council and city agencies to work toward improvements for both residents and businesses, including being part of a joint commission in creating the city’s recently approved comprehensive plan.

Eason praised all of the members for their commitment and dedication to the growth of the city.

“Those people on the planning commission get zero pay for the work that they do, so we really appreciate it as a city,” Eason said.
