Goodwill is making a move in Midwest City.
At least a short one.
The company is relocating to the east end of Uptown Shopping Center, near SE 15th St. and S. Midwest Blvd. The space was the former location of Langston’s Western Wear.
The move will accommodate the addition of Crunch Fitness, which plans to lease 60,000 square feet previously used by Goodwill and the former Tuesday Morning store.
The layout of the new Goodwill store will be like the existing location except the donation area will be relocated to the side of the building. The donation area is currently near the front entrance and main parking lot.
“This change will provide a more convenient and safer donation experience, allowing donors to pull up directly without navigating parking lot traffic or having to back out of donor parking spaces,” said Joseph Trance, Vice President of Donated Retail Goods.
Trance said it will also be more efficient for employees who have to move donated items to the sorting area in the back of the store.
The new space will be more than 20,000 square feet with about 12,000 square feet for the sales floor.
The Uptown Shopping Center was purchased last year by a Texas commercial development company. The new owners want to revive the commercial area while preserving its vintage feel.
“We like the old style of the center and want to maintain that as much as possible,” said Joe Berry, principal and founder of Pintail Partners, in a previous interview. “We want to be putting money into the center, and we want to make it viable again.”
Goodwill has been in its current location since February 2015. The new Goodwill store is expected to open on May 22.
