A verbal dispute between two men turned violent last week as one stabbed the other repeatedly before intentionally crashing a vehicle into Tinker Air Force Base, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

According to an affidavit, the incident began about 10 a.m. July 15 after Carl Hearod Jr. and another man checked out of a motel near Meridian Ave. and Interstate 40 where they had spent the night. The two had reportedly been arguing for days, a trooper wrote in the affidavit.

The men drove to a gas station near Reno and Western avenues to fill up their vehicle. As they left the gas station, Hearod allegedly struck the victim — who was driving — in the face. The argument continued as they got on Interstate 40 heading east.

Near Midwest City, the violence escalated. Hearod reportedly punched the victim again, prompting the driver to threaten to call police once they reached Shawnee. Enraged, Hearod allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim several times during the drive.

According to the affidavit, the victim said, “You’re killing me,” to which Hearod responded, “Nothing would make me happier than to watch you bleed to death.”

The victim asked if he really intended to kill him, and Hearod allegedly said, “Yes, I hope you bleed to death.”

The victim managed to pull the vehicle over on the shoulder. After both men exited the car, Hearod told the victim he would drive him to the nearest hospital. They both got back in the the vehicle, but Hearod instead accelerated toward Tinker Air Force Base and allegedly said “We are both going out together.”

Hearod allegedly believed military personnel would not allow them to leave the base if they crashed into it. He intentionally drove off I-40 and crashed into a fence on the north side of the base.

Both men climbed out of the vehicle which had rolled. Hearod allegedly discarded the knife before police arrived.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers interviewed both individuals at OU Medical Center. During the interview, Hearod reportedly admitted he intended to kill both himself and the victim, saying he believed the man was going to die anyway and “it would be best to just kill them together by wrecking the vehicle.”

Hearod was arrested and is currently being held in the Oklahoma County Detention Center on a complaint of assault with intent to kill. His bond has been set at $50,000.
