Chicken Salad Chick is bringing its popular Southern-style fare to Del City with a new restaurant set to open in the former Carl’s Jr. building at 5550 Tinker Diagonal Street.

Del City Economic Development Director Kyle Gandy said building permits were approved last month, and crews quickly began gutting the interior for a full remodel.

“They’re going full steam ahead,” Gandy said.

Franchise owner Troy Morrison said the space will be transformed to meet the chain’s operational and branding standards.

“We’re undertaking significant renovations, which include complete upgrades to the kitchen and service areas to align with Chicken Salad Chick’s menu and operational needs,” Morrison said. “Additionally, the interior will be redesigned to reflect our Southern-style aesthetic. We look forward to providing the Mid-Del community with a welcoming spot to enjoy America’s favorite chicken salad.”

Morrison said the location was a strategic choice.

“Del City stood out to us as a growing, connected and vibrant community, which aligns perfectly with Chicken Salad Chick’s brand values,” he said. “The support from the city’s leadership and residents has also been strong. Additionally, we’re excited about the restaurant’s accessibility from I-40 and its proximity to Tinker Air Force Base. That visibility will help us further our mission to ‘spread joy, enrich lives and serve others.’”

The restaurant will be operated by the same franchise group that runs Chicken Salad Chick locations in Edmond, Moore, and Quail Springs. Morrison’s group, Meauxmentum Strategies & Investments (MSI), is also developing a Norman location set to open in mid-October.

Chicken Salad Chick offers more than a dozen flavors of made-from-scratch chicken salad, along with soups, side salads, sandwiches, and desserts. Favorites include Classic Carol, Fancy Nancy, Buffalo Barclay, Lauryn’s Lemon Basil, and Sassy Scotty. The seasonal Southwest Señorita is available through late October, and dessert lovers can enjoy the new Red Velvet Cake or the popular White Chocolate Layer Cake.

The Del City location will feature indoor dining, outdoor patio seating, take-out, catering, and third-party delivery. Morrison said they are targeting an early-October opening.

“We can’t wait to welcome the community through our doors,” Morrison said.

Gandy said the project is another example of strong restaurant and retail development in Del City, comparing it to the success of Boot Barn, which opened last year.

“It shows that Del City can accommodate and support these types of concepts,” he said.
