Mid-Del residents will have a chance to learn about plans to rebuild the Interstate 40 corridor between Reno Ave. and Hudiburg Dr. and I-40 bridge over Sunnylane Rd. during a public meeting on Aug. 22.

The meeting is set for 6:15 p.m. at the Del City Community Center, 4505 SE 15th St. in Del City. It will be led by representatives with ODOT and Garver Engineering.

ODOT officials say upgrades are needed to improve increased traffic flow (particularly freight traffic and to Tinker AFB) and reduce safety hazards.

The presentation will include details about the alternative options for the I-40 corridor (between Reno and Hudiburg) and ODOT’s preferred option. They will also present the proposed design for the I-40 bridges over Sunnylane Rd.

Alternatives options include:

  1. One-way frontage roads, reduced number of access points, and slip ramps.
  2. Two-way frontage roads with buttonhook ramps, reduced number ramps.
  3. Two-way frontage roads with buttonhook ramps, looked at maintaining all ramps

Public feedback on the alternative options will be welcomed at the meeting. ODOT’s preferred option is Alternative 1, which officials say will improve safety, traffic operations, minimize impact to surrounding properties and improve travel times.

ODOT recently rebuilt a section of I-40 between Crutcho Creek and Sooner Rd. That recently completed section will be tied into any future plans.

This is part of a larger study of the I-40 corridor from Reno Ave. east to I-240.  The corridor has been split into three sections. ODOT is still in the planning phase on Section 2 (Hudiburg to Douglas) while Section 3 is currently under construction.

  • Section 1 – Reno Ave. to Hudiburg Dr.
  • Section 2 – Hudiburg Dr. to Douglas Blvd. (planning phase)
  • Section 3 – Douglas Blvd. to I-240. (currently under construction)

Construction on the I-40 bridges over Sunnylane is slated for 2028. ODOT has not yet scheduled other improvements for the I-40 corridor.

The entire presentation is available at https://i-40section1.transportationplanroom.com/ Public comments can also be submitted online through Sept. 5.

A PDF version of the study is also available.

The distance between Sooner rd and Cruchco Creek is only a half mile. What an complement to your inability to perform. I have seen most of the plans, and they all are bad either for Tinker or Midwest City; with nothing in-between. Why did you start with this mess without a decent plan? Asking for input is a cop-out.
