A longtime business is closing in Midwest City.
Langston’s Western Wear last week announced it will be closing its store at 1417 S. Midwest Blvd. on Nov. 30.
According to the store manager, Langston’s was unable to renew its lease in the Uptown Plaza, located near SE 15th St. and Midwest Blvd.
The shopping center was owned by the Atkinson family and recently sold to Pintail Partners, a commercial property company in Dallas, Texas. The new owners plan to divide Langton’s space into smaller units and lease them. They offered Langston’s space in a smaller unit, but the store declined.
Langston’s has been in the Uptown Shopping Center for about 19 years. It was previously located in the Atkinson Plaza on SE 29th St. before the area was redeveloped into Town Center Plaza.
“They want to split up the building and charge more rent for a smaller space,” said Johnny Chancey, store manager.
Chancey said they would like to stay in the Midwest City area and are still looking for another location.
The store employs about 10 people who will have the option to work at another location.
Langston’s has two other stores in Oklahoma City’s Stockyards City and Yukon.

So sad. Hope they can find another location. I understand new owners want to optimize their investment, but don’t understand the community goodwill they are throwing in the trash.
